SJNA News

Yesterday evening, and again tonight, we will honor and celebrate the Lunar New Year with our Asian students and cadets on campus. For over 4000 years, Asian people around the world have celebrated the Lunar New Year as the most important holiday. In China, this holiday is also known as the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. It is based on the lunar calendar. People decorate their homes with traditional window paper-cut art, spring couplets, red lanterns, and traditional paintings. Families also prepare an abundance of food for the most important feast of the year. Paying respect and giving best wishes to elders, relatives, and friends is another major part of the holiday. On New Year’s Day, families wear festival clothes, get together with relatives, and extend warmest wishes to their friends and loved ones who cannot be with them.
